2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT globally launched
Despite the ‘’GT’’ badge, this all new version of the SLS AMG is more hardcore (in every way that you can think of) than the current model. Available in Coupe and Roadster forms, the new SLS AMG GT will replace all of previous SLS AMG versions when it eventually goes on sale. What makes this car more hardcore than its predecessor is a simple fact that the 2013 MY (model year) version has been specifically developed on the lines of GT3 version of the SLS AMG racecar.
The interior is the place where the most cosmetic upgrades have been done; inside, the SLS AMG GT is swayed in room full of red inserts over the center-console, leather seats, floor mats and the seat belts. What’s more, the beautifully designed steering wheel, also stitched in red, has been finished in Alcantara. In true Mercedes Benz tradition, there are plenty of optional extras to spice things up that include carbon fiber add-ons, a Bang & Olufsen high-end audio system, carbon ceramic brakes and different wheel designs. While the visual changes to the design may only be noticed by true AMG enthusiasts, there’s nothing subtle about the car’s powertrain. Under the long hood lurks a familiar 6.2-litre fire-breathing V8, which now puts out over 583PS of power, as against 563PS of the current SLS AMG. The torque, though, remains the same at 650Nm. To handle the extra grunt, AMG has fiddled with the 7-speed, Speedshift dual-clutch gearbox for quicker gear changes when in manual mode. All of these enhancements have cut down the 0-100kph time to just 3.6 seconds.
