What it essentially means is that if you don’t have a set top box, then you can’t TV starting Today.

This is the first of the three-stage process where wire TVs across the country migrate to digital signals to be distributed through set top boxes.

Official data released by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry on Tuesday indicates that Mumbai is the only Metro to have achieved 100 % digitisation followed by Delhi and Kolkata.

Chennai is still lagging behind with just 61 %. The govt has been carrying out an extensive public awareness programme as carrying analog signals in the four metros will be illegal from Thursday, November 1.

Without naming any group, a top home ministry official in New Delhi said there were “credible leads” pointing to a “big plan” by a terror outfit. “Preliminary forensic result which is an outcome of the detailed examination of the two unexploded IEDs and nature of blasts shows that the bomb had all the ingredients to cause a much bigger impact and had the potential to take lives of many people.”

In Pune, police bomb experts who supervised dismantling of the devices also said the four bombs placed on Jangli Maharaj road on Wednesday evening exploded only partly. Had these and the two that were defused gone off fully, the damage caused would have been “major”, they said.

Using water judiciously at home is one of the easiest ways out, say experts.

Repairing leaking taps, using flush tanks that have a capacity of 9 litres per flush or less, rainwater harvesting, using bucket to clean vehicles, recycling water and encouraging housemaids to save water by giving incentives are some of the easy ways to save water at home.

Watershed expert Vijay Paranjpye said, “First, conduct a household audit of every day use of water. Once areas of wastage are identified, start looking for methods of prevention. To start with, repair all leakages at home. Ideally, you should have a flush tank that pumps 9 litres per flush or less. But in case you old flush tank with a capacity of 14 litres or more, place a brick or fill up a one litre plastic bottle and keep it in the tank to reduce water flow.”

Most of the educational institutes in Pune area are doing very good use of rain water harvest. They are doing it for non drinking purpose but still if they are doing it for other purposes like car wash or etc , It will indirectly save that amount of water if the fresh water is not used for this purpose. The harvested water is mostly used for watering plants and trees, gardens, kitchen gardens and play grounds. So it will indirectly benefit whole of the Pune and also become a source of inspiration for the this people that they should also come forward to this noble cause.

At the Sevasadan English Medium School run by the Pune Sevasadan Society in Kothrud, therainwater harvesting arrangement comprises a borewell, a filter and a sedimentation pit that will be constantly recharged by the rainwater collected from the rooftop and storm water drains covering an area of 1675 sq m. The recharge potential of the well is estimated at approximate 1.7 million litre per annum. The system was set up in March last year.

The rainwater collected on the terrace is channelized to the sedimentation pit. Chambers have been constructed and connected to the borewell. The system not only recharges the ground water, but also helps the school in several ways to save drinking water.

The school has a one-acre ground on which water needs to be sprinkled everyday. “Rainwater harvesting has helped us in a big way to reduce the load on the drinking water supply as a lot of water is consumed for watering this ground. Besides, we have a kitchen garden where students do their projects. Here also we use the rainwater,” said Nitin Lele, trustee, Pune Sevasadan Society.

Parents of Gaurav Khanna had complained to the consumer forum of medical negligence, deficiency in service and unfair trade practice, following which the state forum, chaired by Justice Kalidas Mukherjee, passed the verdict. The hospital said it may contest the verdict and move the Supreme Court.

The consumer court has also directed the hospital and the two doctors – Srirup Chatterjee and Anil Mishra – to pay an additional litigation fee of Rs 5 lakh to Gaurav’s parents Vijay and Madhubala Khanna. The hospital has also been asked to refund Rs 6,15,000 to the Khannas, as it was found to have been wrongly charged.

On January 17, 2005, Gaurav was admitted to the hospital with chest pain. He was put in the cardiac care unit (CCU). Anil Mishra and Srirup Chatterjee of the hospital diagnosed that Gaurav had an aortic valve leakage and advised a replacement. A surgery was done on January 22, but it failed to improve his condition.

Gaurav suffered a renal failure and was put on a ventilator. He was put through multiple surgeries, without their consent, the parents have alleged. But the operations couldn’t revive the youngster. Gaurav died on February 5.
