The Lahore Shopping Festival 2012 begins

Lahore: The Lahore Shopping Festival 2012 started after Punjab Assembly (PA) Speaker Rana Muhammad Iqbal Khan and Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President Irfan Qaisar Sheikh jointly inaugurated it at the Lahore Polo Club here on Sunday. Scores of individuals thronged the club to participate in the stunning opening ceremony.

LCCI senior vice-president Ka shif Younis Meher, vice-president Saeeda Nazar, former LCCI presidents Shahzad Ali Malik and Mohammad Ali Mian, former senior vice-president Sheikh Mohammad Arshad, United States Consul-General Nina Maria Fite, wife of the Indonesian Ambassador, Butar Latuconsina Kusdiana, notables and bureaucrats attended
the ceremony. A polo fixture was part of the festival’s opening ceremony.

A combined initiative of the Punjab govt and the LCCI, the festival will continue till Apr 29. The festival features a carefully choreographed array of events, along with a 3 day exhibition at the Lahore Expo Centre, a polo tournament, recitation of the Holy Quran competition, young entrepreneur’s business plan competition, photography competition, vintage car rally, Punjabi cultural night, job fair, business walk, wrestling championship, motor bike rally, fashion show, energy conference and a softball cricket tournament.

The opening polo match between the teams of Changoz and Loto Carpets was performed at the Polo Club (Jillani Park). The Changoz defeated the Loto Carpeting by 6-1.

The recitation of Holy Quran competition among runners up of the qualifying round will be organised on today.

“It is a good effort not only to introduce various companies but also to provide an opportunity to the people to go shopping as well as participate in various social, cultural and sporting activities,” Muhammad Iqbal, a participant, said while talking to Dawn at the opening ceremony.
