He defeated his nearest competitor Congress rival Narinder Thakur.

Its a big blow for the Congress as Congress tried his level best in these elections. Other shocking thing in his win is that Prem Kumar Dhumal was in allegations of corruption just before the elections but he managed to win.

Its a second win for the Dhumal in a row in Himachal Pradesh. His earlier won came in the year 2007. So we can say that whatever the trends were but people of Himachal Pradesh still got their faith in him.

I

ts a great shy of relief for BJP that his major leaders still have got potential of wining the elections. On the other hand Congress need to recheck its basics.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is riding on a popularity wave if Gujarat Election Results 2012 are to go by.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is marching ahead to victory – possibly two-third majority.

As per the latest trends at 9.50 am available for 155 of the total 182 seats, the BJP is ahead in 97 seats while the Congress is doing well in 52 seats.

Keshubhai Patel of Gujarat Parivartan Party (GPP) is among the 3 candidates of the party who are leading in early trends. Others are heading in 3 other seats.

Narendra Modi is leading from Maninagar against Shweta Bhatt of the Congress. Just as the counting of votes began, Modi wrote on Twitter: “No need of looking behind, FORWARD! We want infinite energy, infinite courage, infinite patience…”

Key candidates

Leading

BJP: Jayrajsinh Jadeja – Gondal, Poonamben Maadam – Khambhalia, Anandiben Patel – Ghatlodi, Ganpat Vasava – Mangrol, Keshubhai Patel – Visavadar, Kashyap Shukla – Rajkot (East)

Trailing

BJP: Kanubhai Kalsaria – Mahuva, Dilip Sanghani – Amreli, RC Faldu – Jamnagar (Rural), Jai Narayan Vyas – Sidhapur

Congress: Kanubhai Balata- Visavadar, Indranil Rajyaguru- Rajkot (East) Jagrutiben Pandya – Eillisbridge, Arjun Modhwadia – Congress – Porbander, Tejash Chaudhary – Mangrol, Shaktisinh Gohil – Bhavnagar (Rural)

Others: Gordhanbhai Zadafia – Gondal

In Gujarat, where 71.32 percent voters cast their ballot, the counting of postal ballots began at 8:00 am and EVMs opened at 8.30 am.

The counting of votes at all 182 Assembly constituencies will seal the electoral fate of 1,666 candidates.

Polling was held in two phases on December 13 and 17, and the counting of votes is being held at 33 locations spread across the state.

Chief Minister Narendra Modi is seeking a third straight term in office and pollsters have predicted a landslide for BJP. A big win will viably consolidate Modi’s position in his party.

Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s rival and Gujarat Parivartan Party (GPP) chief Keshubhai Patel on Thursday cast his vote as polling in 87 constituencies for the first phase of Assembly Elections began amidst tight security in Gujarat.

The polling, which began at 8.am, is taking place in 48 Assembly constituencies covering in seven districts of Saurashtra, on 35 seats in five districts of southern Gujarat and on four in Ahmedabad district. The voting turnout in the first two hour of polling was recorded at 6% due to cold weather.

State Congress president Arjun Modhwadia (Porbandar) was among the top senior leaders, who cast their votes as the voting began this morning. Out of total 1,81,77,953 voters, there are 95,75,278 male, 86,02,557 female and 118 other voters. For this phase, BJP has fielded candidates on all 87 seats going to the poll, whereas Congress is contesting on 84 and GPP on 83. These elections are very much important as this election will put the winning road for the upcoming elections of the year 2014.

Modi is poised to come return for a 3rd term as chief minister.

In the manifesto, it will provide free affordable houses to the poor and will give loans to the farmers at lower interest rates in Gujarat.

The party also promised that if elected to power, it will provide agro processing units and cold storages in all districts of the states.

It also said that in the next five years 16 lak hectare of land will be irrigated.

the BJP has promised greater job opportunities for more than 30 lakh youth of the state if voted back to power. It also promises to set up new speciality hospitals in Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot and North Gujarat.

Modi’s prime ministerial ambitions received an unexpected burst of support over the weekend from two senior BJP leaders who are both seen as front-runners for the same position.

First Sushma Swaraj said that Modi is fit to be Prime Minister; then, LK Advani suggested that Mr Modi’s unquestionable stature as a crowd-puller and vote-getter is not resented within a party often perceived to be riddled with competition and infighting among its top ranks.

“Someone once asked me if Modi has become bigger than the party. I replied that in a family sometimes the younger ones are more capable then then the seniors and in such a case, seniors do not feel bad, they feel happy that a youth from their family is so capable,” said Mr Advani.

If the BJP picks Modi as its candidate for prime minister for the 2014 general elections, it risks losing one of its most important allies.

Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar, who runs the state in partnership with the BJP, has made it clear that he will break the alliance if Modi is chosen as the nominee of the NDA, the coalition of parties led by the BJP.

In a surprise move, suspended IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt’s wife Shweta has been given the Congress ticket from Maninagar to take on Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

Importantly, the announcement was made on a day when Modi is planned to file file his nomination papers from the central Ahmedabad constituency.

In 2007 election, Modi had won Maninagar, which falls in Ahmedabad city, by around 75,000 votes beating Dinsha Patel of Congress.

Sanjiv Bhatt had filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court in which he alleged Modi’s complicity in post-Godhra riots.

Sanjiv Bhatt is facing charges of coercing his official driver to make a false statement in connection with the alleged inaction of the Narendra Modi government during the 2002 riots in the state.

Bhatt has pleaded that the case against him was fabricated and was a consequence of political vendetta.

He has sought investigation by an independent agency into the allegations.

It was alleged that Bhatt had pressured his driver KD Pant to tell a court that he drove the Gujarat cadre Indian Police Service officer to the Chief Minister’s residence on February 27, 2002.

Bhatt had claimed that in the meeting held at the Chief Minister’s residence that day, Modi told senior administration officials not to act against rioters.

As per reports, senior BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley will try to woo voters in Shimla while Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal will be reaching out to voters in Kangra.

Congress stalwart and former chief minister Virbhadra Singh, facing graft charges, will be holding public meetings in Kullu and Bilaspur.

All 68 constituencies in the state will be voting in a single phase. The results will be announced on Dec 20. Sixty companies of central paramilitary forces will be deployed on polling day.

The Congress had, on Thursday, claimed that unemployment in the state had shot up during the BJP’s rule and that the Dhumal govt had given the land mafia a free run.

Newspaper advertisements too have been a bone of contention between the Congress and the BJP. The Congress is crying foul over advertisements put out by the Dhumal government listing its achievements.

Abhijit defeated his nearest CPI-M rival Muzaffar Hussain in Jangipur Lok Sabha seat in Western Bengal’s Murshidabad district by just 2536 votes.

After the 9th round of counting, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna’s son Saket Bhauguna was trailing by over 25,000 votes form his nearest rival BJP’s Mala Raj Laxmi Shah.

Congress has pitted Saket against BJP’s Mala Raj Laxmi Shah, a member of Tehri’s royal family in the by-election for which polling was held on Wednesday. Modest 45 % voters turned out in the high-profile Tehri by-election.

The by-election to the Jangipur Lok Sabha seat was held on October 10 as the seat had been left vacant after Pranab Mukherjee was elevated to the highest office of the country.

Total 57 % electorals excersied their franchise in the Jangipur bypoll.

Brisk polling was witnessed in the Vice Presidential poll on Tuesday in which incumbent Hamid Ansari is all set to be re-elected to the top post with UPA having a clear edge over NDA.

75-year-old Ansari, whose candidature has been supported by Left parties and UPA allies like SP and BSP, appears set to fend off the contest put up by NDA nominee Jaswant Singh.

As many as 600 electors from an effective electoral college of 787 members of Parliament had cast their vote by 1:00pm, Ansari’s election agent and senior advocate Pravin Parekh said.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi were among the early voters in the 13th Vice Presidential election polling for which began at 10:00am. Jaswant Singh was also among the early voters. BJD, TDP and RSP have declared that they would abstain from voting. Union minister Vilasrao Deshmukh is ill and admitted to a Chennai hospital. The three parties together have 34 members in both Houses of Parliament.

With the total number of voting members reduced to 752, the halfway mark for Ansari has become 377. UPA managers claim to have the declared support of nearly 500 members. BJP leaders LK Advani, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, Murli Manohar Joshi, BSP supremo Mayawati and SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav had cast their ballots before noon.
