Where the UPA government on Today celebrated the 4th anniversary of its second avatar, the BJP on Wednesday hit out on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his coalition, calls it a failure.

Speaking at a press conferences, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj said the UPA leadership was divided.

Hitting out at the Prime Minister, Sushma said, “Manmohan Singh is a PM but not a leader either of the party or the country.”

“UPA allies sit with the PM to discuss problems but look up to UPA chairperson (Sonia Gandhi) for solutions,” she added.

The BJP leader pointed out that “coalitions need special leadership” and the “UPA hasn’t been able to provide the leadership that the country needs”.

“A number of times it has happened that the government took a decision which the public didn’t like and then the UPA chairperson wrote a letter seeking a rollback of the decision.”

“It has become a practice to blame the government for bad decisions, and party takes credit for the rollback,” Sushma rued.

“The NDA government had handed over a booming economy to the UPA government, which even they had acknowledged in their first Economic Survey.

“However today, the economic environment is depressing and worrying… people are not investing, but only withdrawing,” the BJP leader said expressing concern.

“Corruption has crossed all limits during the UPA regime… and the common man is suffering in the form of rising prices.

“Never before inflation has risen this much under any other government,” Sushma said.

According to her, the UPA had failed on the foreign affairs front as well and even “small nations like Maldives were dared India”.

She further noted that cases of crimes against women have risen drastically under the UPA regime.

“What are they celebrating today?” she asked, alleging that the UPA doesn’t have regard for even constitutional institutions like the CVC.

Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley said “never before has the country seen an environment of such gloom, pessimism, cynicism and negativism”.

Inspector Balbir Singh submitted an affidavit on May 15, he alleged that CBI’s Chandigarh deputy inspector (DIG) Mahesh Aggarwal, who was close family links to Bansal leaked crucial information on Delhi CBI team’s raid at Bansal’s nephew Vijay Singla’s house on May 3 in connection with the Rs 10-crore railway scam.

More shockingly, Singh alleged that Aggarwal had tipped off Bansal nephew Vijay Singla’s family about the Delhi CBI team’s raid plan and the action was delayed giving them time to destroy evidence.

More shocking news revealed by the Balbir Singh, claimed that Aggarwal had tipped off Bansal nephew Vijay Singla’s family about the Delhi CBI team’s raid plan and the action was delayed giving them time to destroy evidence.

Balbir also alleged that Aggarwal had tried to manipulate probe against Chandigarh Municipal Corporation’s joint commissioner Rajiv Gupta – brother of Bansal’s financial auditor and close aide, Sunil Gupta – in a corruption case.

According to the Balbir Singh claimed, Aggarwal had rejected to submit to pressure from Aggarwal. Balbir was later transferred to Bhopal, he challenged the transfer order and the CAT has stayed it.

The Gujarat Government puts on hold death penalty of former minister Maya Kodnani and Bajrang Dal leader Babu Bajrangi in the Naroda Patia case of the post-Godhra riots in 2002.

The Gujarat government had earlier sanctioned an appeal by the SIT seeking death for Kodnani and Bajrangi in the case. The state government is likely to consult the attorney general before filing an appeal.

The Narendra Modi government had last month sanctioned an appeal by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) seeking a death sentence for Kodnani and Bajrangi in the 2002 post-Godhra riots case.

“The state law department has asked the SIT chief prosecutor not to proceed ahead with seeking enhanced sentences for convicts in the massacre. I believe there was lots of pressure on the government from various quarters,” a lawyer privy to the investigations said.

The Modi government had faced extreme criticism from the RSS for filing death appeal against the two leaders Kodnani and Bajrangi.

The SIT wanted the 10 convicts, who played major roles in the 2002 post-Godhra riots case, to be punished by the death sentence. The SIT court awarded severe punishments to these 10 persons – Kodnani, Bajrangi, Naresh Chhara, Morli Sindhi, Haresh Rathod, Suresh Langado, Premchand Tiwari, Manoj Sindhi and Bipin Panchal and Suresh, alias Shehzad – for their criminal conspiracy and active involvement throughout the fateful day, in the killing of 97 persons in the industrial locality in eastern Ahmedabad on February 28, 2002.

Digvijay also said that the such comments may impair importance of the national institutions

“Hon Supreme Court calls CBI a Parrot in a Cage; CAT calls Intelligence Bureau a Chicken. Are we not belittling our Institutions? (sic)”, Digvijay wrote on Twitter.

“I want you to respond. I will request you to try and get access to all those who are calling our institutions chicken or parrot. You should take reaction from them also,” Singh, who is an AICC general secretary, told.

On the other hand the CAT had drawn parallels between the Intelligence Bureau and a chicken. The Cat said the IB was like an Augean Stable that requires systematic clean-up. “It is like a chicken. A bird? — Yes. Can it fly? — No”, the Bangalore bench of CAT had said while passing orders on a woman IPS officer’s application against her repatriation to her cadre.

“If the morale of CBI has been degraded then it is because the CBI was deliberately not allowed to function properly,” Ravi Shankar Prasad added.
