Another unique and popular trait about the Body Issue is the number of different covers that fans can choose from when buying from newsstands.

There were six cover athletes in 2009, five in 2010 and five in 2011. It’s unknown how many different covers there will be this year, but we do know that Tyson Chandlerwill be on one of them. According to TerezOwens, the NBA’s reigning Defensive Player of the Year will be appearing on the front of some of the publications, which come out on July 13. Chandler will become the fourth NBA player and second New York Knick to appear on the cover, following Dwight Howard, Blake Grifin and teammate Amar’e Stoudemire.

There are going to be 27 athletes in all appearing within the pages of the zine. The models will range from big-name players in popular sports like the NFL to some more unknown names from less heralded sports such as fencing and sailing

Today, archerycomes to the forefront yet again as we prepare for the Olympic games to begin. More than a decade ago, archery was introduced in the 1990 Summer Olympics and today South Korea rules the Olympic medal charts with 30 medals. Will India break into this chart and win our first medal in archery this time around?

Indians are hopeful about bringing home at least two archery medals in the London Olympic 2011, says chief coach – Limba Ram. India has qualified for men and women’s archery; the men’s team includes Tarundeep Rai, Jayanta Talukdar and Rahul Banerjee, and the women’s team includes Deepika Kumari, Laishram Bombayla Devi and Chekrovolu Swuro.

Former Dallas Mavericks combo guard Jason Terry has verbally agreed to join the Boston Celtics and take Ray Allen’s place in Boston’s Big 3.

Doc Rivers questioned whether the “band” would be back in 2013 and it looks like everyone’s back but the drummer. Terry will fill Allen’s shoes after Allen was let go after seeing his production fall sharply in 2012 — notably in the playoffs where he was hobbled by lower body injuries that held him down.

Terry played in Dallas since 2004 and was the Sixth Man of the Year in 2009. He’ll join a Celtics roster that is largely the same from last year save for a few pieces including Allen. Boston will run Terry at shooting guard as Rajon Rondo is already the solidified point guard. Kevin Garnett agreed to return to the Celtics earlier last week and Paul Pierce is still under contract at small forward. Boston will also use a rotation of new draft picks Fab Melo and Jared Sullinger at center.

Boston offered Terry a three year deal and will take full advantage of the Celtic’s mid-level exception valued at $5 million each season.

The Suns landed their prime free-agency target, shooting guard Eric Gordon, with a Tuesday night commitment.

Now, it becomes a matter of whether he is a moving target. Gordon, 23, agreed to sign a four-year, $58 million offer sheet on July 11, but New Orleans is expected to match the restricted free agent’s maximum-level offer in its ensuing three-day window.

Gordon made the commitment on his second night in Phoenix, where unrestricted free agent Goran Dragic also visited Tuesday as the Suns rolled out the orange carpet, literally, for both to walk from First Street to the US Airways Center pavilion.

After visiting the Suns, the impression the organization made on me was incredible,” Gordon said in a statement through his agent, Rob Pelinka. “(Suns Managing Partner) Mr. (Robert) Sarver, (President of Basketball Operations) Lon Babby, (General Manager) Lance Blanks, the front-office staff and Coach (Alvin) Gentry run a first-class organization and I strongly feel they are the right franchise for me. Phoenix is just where my heart is now.”

Gordon was considered one of the market’s top free agents but could tie up a substantial portion of the Suns’ salary-cap space, which was potentially $23 million, while waiting for New Orleans’ July 14 response. The Hornets, with new owner Tom Benson, cleared more cap space last week by trading Emeka Okafor and Trevor Ariza in anticipation of the demand for Gordon. Gordon also visited Indiana and Houston but can only sign one offer sheet.

The 29-second clip was reportedly circulated after Pinki underwent a gender verification test at a private nursing home in North 24 Parganas district where the sprinter was taken subsequent to her arrest June 14.”I have heard about the video clip, though I am yet to see it. Those responsible for making the clip must be immediately arrested for such a heinous act. The matter needs to be reported to the police but at the moment Pinki is behind bars and no one from her family is available to file a report,” Pinki’s counsel Tuhin Roy said.

Roy said he will raise the matter before the court notice at the next hearing July 12.

Meanwhile the police have maintained that they can act only if there is an official complaint.

“I spoke to police about the matter but was told that they could only act after a first information report (FIR) is filed.

“I have never been subjected to such humiliation and harassment in my life,” said Pinki after she had to come yet again to the government run SSKM Hospital Monday to give blood samples for a chromosomal test.

The treatment meted out to the athlete has attracted severe criticism from several renowned sportspersons.

“Pinki is women until proven otherwise, but male police officers have been escorting her and at times dragging her out from the van. This is absolutely deplorable,” former national women’s swimming champion Bula Chowdhury said.

Another Asiad gold medalist Jyotirmoyee Sikdar echoing Chowdhury views said: “It is a shame that even after so many days, the test results are inconclusive. Why is she still being kept behind bars?”

The athlete has twice undergone gender determination tests in two different government hospitals but on both the occasions the tests were inconclusive.

“In the name of gender test, Pinki is being taken from one hospital to another, which has been causing her mental trauma and physical harassment,” Pramanik’s counsel Tuhin Roy said.

Liukin, competing only in bars and beam, struggled badly in her uneven bars routine; her legs folded on a handstand and then, in the evening’s most startling moment, missed the bar on a release and fell face-down flat on the mat.

The crowd cheered her on as she gathered herself and finished the routine, standing to applaud in appreciation when she finished.

“It’s not really something where I thought I should stop or not finish my routine,” Liukin said. “I was ready to finish and that’s how I’ve been taught [from] such a young age. I’ve learned from my dad and my mom to be a fighter.”

Caught in a tense duel with Bo Van Pelt on another sweltering day, it looked as though Woods blinked first until Van Pelt matched him with mistakes of his own. Woods closed with a 2-under 69 and won by two shots when Van Pelt finished with his third straight bogey and had to settle for a 71.

Woods won for the third time this year, the most of anyone on the PGA Tour, and it was the 74th win of his career. That moved him past Jack Nicklaus into second place on the tour list, eight short of the record set by Sam Snead.

Woods, who finished at 8-under 276, moved to the top of the PGA Tour money list and the FedEx Cup standings for the first time since September 2009.

He effectively clinched the win with a 9-iron down the hill toward the peninsula green on the 18th, a shot so pure that Woods started walking and twirled the club moments after he made contact.

And so ended a wild week in Washington – record heat Friday, followed by a wind storm that topped dozens of trees at Congressional and forced the tournament to keep spectators out Saturday. They were back in force for the final round, and they were treated to some pretty good theater.

Ditto for the Boston Bruins, champions of the 2011 playoffs. They didn’t make themselves into the team they became on July 1 of the previous year.

These facts, of course, didn’t stop a lot of folks from getting a little overexcited on Sunday when their favourite NHL club didn’t go out and spend tens of millions of dollars to attract unrestricted free agents.

The first day of free-agent shopping, let’s face it, has rarely settled anything, save perhaps which NHL team is deluding itself into thinking it just needs one more piece to win the Stanley Cup and which NHL club believes by spending money it can win back the love of a cynical or disaffected home audience.

Sure, a few players either got rich Sunday or at least found another team to pay them more than they deserve. From P.A. Parenteau to Brandon Prust to Adam Burish, from Matt Carkner to George Parros to Alexei Ponikarovsky, millions of dollars were committed for players who can’t possibly be anything but relatively minor contributors to their clubs.

The Charlotte Bobcats take Kentucky forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist at No. 2 and the Washington Wizards choose Florida guard Bradley Beal third. Davis knew he would be the No. 1 pick before it was determined which team would get the selection. He is the centerpiece of New Orleans’ attempt to revive the team without Chris Paul. While Davis needs to add muscle and develop in the post, he is a long, athletic wing player who is a very talented rebounder and shot blocker. He can defend multiple positions and is a very tough player.

Standing at just a shade under 7-feet, his reach extends nine feet. Like Davis, Kidd-Gilchrist played only one season in Lexington, though it was an excellent one. The 18-year-old averaged 11.9 points and 7.4 rebounds a game and was named to the All-SEC first team. He is one of the most dynamic athletes in the draft, and leaves everything on the court as a tenacious rebounder and offensive attacker. The biggest knock on him entering the draft is a perimeter game that still needs to develop.
