Racing to record his eighth French Open Title, Rafael Nadal cemented his reputation as the greatest-ever player on clay court on Sunday, by scything down fellow Spaniard David Ferrer by 6-3, 6-2, 6-3.

No man in the history of world Tennis has ever claimed or won the same Grand Slam as many times, or has won as many as 59 matches on the red clay of Paris.

Since 2005, Nadal has only failed to win against Roland Garros who bagged his first French Open in his first try. But Sunday proved out to be historic in the life of Nadal.

Neither the tenacious play of his 31-year old countryman nor the drama of some protestors, brandishing through lighted flare could hamper his successful march to his 12th major title.

With 17 grand titles, only Swiss player Roger Federer owns more Grand Slam among current players. Nadal now ranks third in the list of all time major winners, surpassing former greats Bjorn Borg and Rod Laver to tie Roy Emerson.

Among active men player only Roger Federer and former US Tennis player Pete Sampras, are ahead in the list.

Nadal, on Friday, survived French Open semifinal against Novak Djokovic and was wearing tape below his left knee during his triumph against Ferrer that could make no difference to its agility and speed throughout the match.

Against his friend and foe, on Sunday, Nadal made a perfect comeback ever since he began playing in February, following a seven-month break after rest from his dodgy knee.
