Army Brig. Gen. Mohammed Siddiqul Alam Shikder told, “many people are still trapped in the building, which housed a number of garment factories employing 100s of people when it came tumbling down Wednesday morning. A clearer picture of the rescue operation would be available by afternoon”.

The disaster came less than 5 months after a factory fire 112 people killed and underscored the dangerous conditions faced by Bangladesh’s garment employees, who produce clothes for global brands worn around the world. Workers said they had hesitated to enter the building on Wednesday morning because it had developed such huge cracks a day earlier. Just hours later it came tumbling down.

Searchers worked through the night to cut holes in the jumbled mess of concrete with drills or their bare hands, passing water and torches to those pinned within the building.

Sajjad Ahmed and Mohd Aslam of Chanderog village were arrested on Thursday  in connection with the rape case of a 14-year-old girl at Nai Basti in the district, they said.

Himayat Baig was arrested from Udgir, Latur district of Maharashtra after seven month, by the state’s Anti-Terrorism Squad.

Himayat Baig convicted on various counts under Indian Penal Code Sections 302, 307, 120b, 153A, 325, 326, and others, pertaining to murder, conspiracy, destroying property and other serious crimes.
