Van blast kills six in Pakistan
PESHAWAR: A blast ripped through a traveler van in Pakistan’s restive tribal belt on Wednesday, killing at least six individuals and injuring nine others, official said.
The van was holding 15 men from Khurrakai village to Jamrud, the major town in Khyber section when it was hit while moving past through a ravine.
Shakeel Khan Umarzai, a senior administration official said “The passengers were going to town for shopping. So far we can confirm the death of six people while nine others are injured”.
He said “Three people are seriously injured. It is unclear that the blast was caused by an IED or a planted bomb in the van but explosives were used”.
A physician at the city government hospital where the casualties and the injured were taken also verified the deaths.
Mohammed Anas said “We are treating six other passengers who were wounded while three seriously injured have been shifted to Peshawar”.
